May 4

Yes.
The day has finally come. I began my year-long internship at Capitol City Christian Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. Joy Blythe is my boss. She is the Children's Ministry Director here at CCCC, C4, Quad-C... or whatever. I like Quad-C, even though I haven't heard anyone else call it that. I think I'll start that. "Quad-C". My idea. Maybe. Probably not.

First off, I am staying at Joy and Dave Blythe's house for these next 2 weeks. Holly and I are waiting on word about housing... to see where we'll be staying for the next year. Part of the deal about the internship was that housing was provided... but since we're a married couple, that changes things for whoever the host family might be. Something about "those darn married couples make too many noises" or something blah. That's the living situation. This will be something I'll keep updating about, because where we live is important... at least it is to me.

So, here I am, sitting at the Blythe house, living in their guest basement room, without Holly, and just kind waiting for tomorrow so I can work some more. It's a nice house, with 2 nice golden retrievers, and the Blythe's have nice living quarters. Dave used to be in the Air Force, and we've had some good conversations so far. Both Joy and Dave are going on vacation, leaving on Thursday, May 6th. They are going to New York, NY to get on a cruise ship and enjoy the pleasure of a cruise. Lucky them! All in all, I will be house-sitting for the next two weeks, even though I'll be back and forth between Manhattan and Lincoln. Don't worry, we've got the dog-feeding/walking situation figured out.

Alright. There's the living situation and everything non-actual-job about Lincoln and my job. Haha... awkward sentence, but it works. You get it.

At work today, I met almost everyone. Jennifer, Bill, Rusty, Thomas, Todd, Garet, Roger, Layne, Kelly, Jenny, Becky, Peggy, Kelly, and Eden. Well, not Eden, because she wasn't there today. Eden was the Children's Ministry intern for the last year. She hasn't completely moved out of the office yet, but I was told she will do so tomorrow. From what I understand, she has been doing a great job with the CM, and it looks like I have some good-sized shoes to fill. I'm confident I can, but not egotistical.

Joy and I sat down in her office at around 9:00am, which was great considering it was 9am and not 6am (like my old job). I like that part of the job... the whole sleeping an extra 3 hours at night part. That's awesome. Besides the point, but awesome.

I sat back and just absorbed everything Joy had to say about what the plans were for this summer, and what was expected of me in all the events taking place. We have Church Camp first thing in June, then Kid's Camp after that... Kid's Camp is a week-long arts camp where the kids learn a mini-musical, then perform it on Friday... so that will be fun. After Kid's Camp is a Two-Day Mission Camp thing. I'll be involved with that as well. VBS is in the middle of July. Also, Sunday mornings, I will be in charge of quite a bit, especially during the summer.

That's a very watered down version of what we talked about for about 4 hours. My responsibilities for Church Camp, Kid's Camp, Mission Camp, VBS, Sunday Mornings, etc... will be discussed more as those events come up.

I ate lunch with Garet (the College Ministry intern and my friend) and Todd (the Worship minister) at some burger joint. Decent burger, but nothing to brag about... but maybe that's because I had burgers for dinner the night before and wasn't feeling it. Oh well, Todd paid, so I'll take it gladly. Thanks again, Todd.

After lunch (LUNCH!!!), I met with Joy for a little bit longer about Sunday morning curriculum and how that could tie in with Church Camp (more on this later... it's a lot). After the little 20-30 minute post-lunch sit down with Joy, I talked to the church's tech guy (Thomas) on the phone about setting up my own desktop computer. We briefly discussed nerdy tech stuff, which I actually comprehended, and thus began moving my huge box up to my new office. Garet helped me, because the thing weighed about 250 pounds... probably not, but it was heavy and not easy to get up the stairs.

I moved a couple of Eden's boxes out of the way, cleaned off the desk, and put my new computer up there. I hooked up my new monitor (Garet and I ran to Wal-Mart real quick and we got it) to the compy, and it started to look like an office. I'm good with that. Though the place is still a mess, mainly because Eden's stuff isn't completely moved out... I did what I could, began some downloads and updates on the computer, then came "home" to the Blythe's... after stopping to get some Popeye's chicken. By the way, the dinner from popeye's was terrible. Tiny, micro-servings, and it was just blah. Oh well, I learned my lesson.

After that, I just hung with the Blythe's, walked the dogs, talked a little more to Dave, watched the 10 o'clock news with Joy, then began updating this blog. I talked to Holly online, played a couple games of online backgammon (we love it!), talked to her on the phone, said goodnight... then finished up this blog.

I'm excited for what this year will bring... heck... for what these next 2 weeks will bring. It's exciting to see what will go on this summer... and all the projects. I'm pumped, a little intimidated, but will manage, no problemo.

Seeing how it's 1:00am... and I'm still up... and worn out mentally and physically... and wanted to go to bed an hour ago, but needed to do this blog... I'M DONE.

More to come,
clint
